William Paca Lodge No. 1960

Sons of Italy

Formed through the efforts of John Battaglia, Ralph Ruoco and Joe DiBiase, the William Paca Lodge of the Sons of Italy was inaugurated on May 25, 1947.

Through the efforts of Peter, Rose and Ray Esposito, others were found who would be interested in forming a local lodge in Mountain View. The name selected for the lodge was WILLIAM PACA .. a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and the Governor of Maryland. The Charter was signed by Ray Esposito, Charles Milani and Mary Bernardi on May 25, 1946, and the first meeting was held on June 9, 1947 at the I. F. E. S. Hall in Mountain View.

Although formed after WWII, four of its members had participated honorably in that world conflict: Pfc. Ray Zanella, recipient of the Bronze Star; Jack Bianco, holder of the Purple Heart; Joseph Cusimano, Bronze Star and Battle of the Bulge; and Attilio Zandona. Thirteen members were initiated immediately, and the Lodge kept growing from that point.

Initially, charitable contributions were made to the Red Cross, the Tuberculosis Crusade, and to all causes deemed worthy by the Grand Lodge or to needs caused by disasters. The William Paca Lodge sponsored a group of Girl Scouts every year, as well as a host of annual events (the annual picnic, the Christmas party and the annual Dinner-Dance Anniversary Celebration). The Lodge also participated in the financial support of the Grand Lodge Home.

Ever since its inception, the William Paca Lodge has been a very active and deciated group. Today, as we look back on the last fifty years, we would like to express our pride and gratitude to those before us who had the foresight and the patience to have found this worthy organization. To them and all members - past and present - we say, "Thank You".
